My wife and I started sending our son gift baskets throughout the school year to help with the transition of being away all acrossed the country by himself during his years in college.  We began to notice the positive impact these gift baskets  were having on our son. We soon started sharing this with other parents of our son's friends and they wanted us to send their sons and daughters the same gift baskests.
